Shown at the 46th Salon de la Société des Artistes Décorateurs in Paris in 1969, the “Structura”, also known as “Galaxie”, armchairs are an early example of a self-supporting structure. Thirty-two examples were produced. Their design can be related to the structures of Kenneth D. Snelson and to the research of Buckminster Fuller.

Biography
Jacques-Henri Varichon, born in 1945, is a French architect and designer. With the “Galaxie” armchair, designed in 1969 and produced by Steiner, he explored a self-supporting structure based on the balance of forces and the tension of materials.
