The Creed

The selection proposed by DIZAGN highlights important works by French designers during « L’âge de la Croissance » (1945-1973), made by design historian Thibault Lannuzel.

The aim of this collection is to help you discover, through a selection of significant pieces, the work of a whole line of young designers who marked the French landscape during the period of growth more commonly known as the "Trente Glorieuses" (1945-1973) in the fields of mass-produced models and fittings.

This generation will promote the design from the end of the Second World War, based on the doctrine of social functionalism defended earlier by their elders: Jacques Dumond, Rene Gabriel, Marcel Gascoin and Louis Sognot. Great figures of the Reconstruction, members of the UAM who trained them on the benches of the school or within their agencies where these young creators will make their first weapons.

Contemporaries of iconic figures such as Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand or Le Corbusier, this young avant-garde that we propose to discover, adds up for more than two decades awards and distinctions.

During this period, these designers became key figures in France; they worked on large-scale interior design programs with renowned architects or the Mobilier National and proposed another vision of modernity, that of French rationalism, mass production stripped of all artifice, and more broadly, the alliance of the designer and the industrialist for the right forms and the affirmation of beauty in the useful.

Moreover, these creators contribute to the emergence of the status of designer; a new profession which consists in conceiving furniture and interior fittings which are at the same time of quality, functional and accessible to all. This founding generation deserves to be inscribed in the genesis of a profession and a discipline from which we still learn today.

This selection (furniture, seats, lights and graphic art) retraces their path, illustrating, through the use of new materials or a new manufacturing technique, a repertoire of reinvented forms that justify their place in the history of French design history.
