Étienne Fermigier F161 Floor Lamp

Produced by Monix in France circa 1968, the F161 floor lamp combines a cast-iron base, a chromed-metal structure and white lacquered metal elements. This example is marked “Monix Paris” beneath the base.

The vertical composition places direct emphasis on the materials and construction. The contrast between the white lacquer, chromed metal and the visual weight of the cast-iron base gives the lamp a restrained, precise and functional presence.

Context and Edition

The F161 belongs to the group of lighting designs developed by Étienne Fermigier for Monix in the late 1960s. This collaboration is documented by a Monix trade catalogue published circa 1970 and by the journal Techniques and Architecture, no. 5, March 1972. This body of work was also the subject of the exhibition Étienne Fermigier: Lighting for Monix, presented by Demisch Danant in 2021.
