Background

This table is part of the research conducted by Gilles Derain into architectural furniture with taut lines and industrial materials. Its wide, profiled top rests on a graphic base combining discs and compass legs, a construction documented for this model produced by Lumen Center in the 1980s.

Biography

French designer born in 1944, Gilles Derain is one of the co-founders and artistic directors of Lumen Center. Self-taught and a connoisseur of 20th-century decorative arts, from the 1970s onwards he developed a body of work in furniture and lighting characterised by a strong geometry, great economy of means and the frequent use of metal. He is particularly known for the MCP lamp and several creations published by Lumen Center.
