Ado Sato, known as ADO, was born in Yokohama on 23 December 1936 and died in Tokyo in 1995. The son of painter Key Sato and Franco-Japanese singer Yoshiko Sato, he studied aesthetics at Keio University in Tokyo and graduated in 1961. He moved to Paris the following year.
From the 1960s, ADO developed graphic and pictorial work combining geometric abstraction, simplified anthropomorphic forms and vivid colour. He exhibited at Galerie Templon in Paris in 1968 and took part that year in the Bradford International Print Biennale. In 1971, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris devoted a solo exhibition to him at the ARC.
His work is represented in several international public collections. The Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris notably holds a screenprint Emergence dated 1965, while the Museum of Modern Art in New York also holds works by Ado Sato.
