Background
The De Bruyn manufactory was established in Fives-Lille in 1864 under Antoine Gustave De Bruyn. From 1887 it developed decorated slipware and received a medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris. Employing up to 400 workers before the First World War, it continued production until 1962.
Biography
Hector Guimard (1867–1942) was one of the leading figures of French Art Nouveau. An architect and decorator, he developed an organic vocabulary across buildings, furniture and objects, made emblematic by the entrances to the Paris Métro.
