Biography
Born in Cologne in 1910, Raoul Ubac (1910–1985) was a Belgian artist who became a naturalised French citizen, initially close to Surrealism and later to the Nouvelle École de Paris. In the 1930s, he associated notably with André Breton and Man Ray and explored solarisation and photomontage.
After the war, he gradually moved away from photography towards painting, printmaking and work in slate. Close to Aimé Maeght, he produced numerous lithographs for the gallery and Éditions Maeght.
