French Roman-style bench from the late 18th century. Carved and gilded wood, patterned upholstery. Dimensions: height 70 cm, seat height 42 cm, length 125 cm, depth 67 cm.

Description

This bench is characterised by a symmetrical composition, a low elongated structure and carved decoration heightened with gilding. Its silhouette draws on a neoclassical vocabulary inspired by Antiquity, with particular attention to proportion and the rhythm of the legs.

Context

In the late 18th century, renewed interest in classical forms shaped French furniture and encouraged more architectural lines. This piece therefore combines seating function with decorative presence and can now be presented as a collector’s bench, occasional seat or display element.
