Biography:
Silvio Coppola was born in Brindisi, Italy, in 1920 and graduated as an architect from the Polytechnic University of Milan. During his professional career, he achieved several professional goals, both in Italy and abroad, particularly in the field of shopping center architecture. He also devoted himself to interior design, graphic design, and visual communication, and was a member of the AGI (Art Directors Club of New York).
He worked for major companies such as Bayer, Bernini, Montecatini, Monteschell, Zucchi, Cinzano, Alessi, Cassina, Parmalat, and Feltrinelli. In 1962, he received the La Palma d'Oro award for advertising and the Rizzoli award in 1966. He taught for several years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara and at the Gesamthochschule in Essen. His success in the field of furniture is marked by refined woodwork and a touch of modernity brought to tradition.
Silvio Coppola designed iconic furniture for Montina, Bernini, Cassina, and Artemide. In 1967, he founded an exhibition design group with Munari and Grignani to conduct research on design applied to trade shows, fairs, and museums. He died in his beloved city of Milan in 1985.
