Good overall condition, chrome-plated metal in good condition, slight scratches and wear marks. Traces of oxidation and wax.

Biography:

Michel Boyer de Rebeval, known as Michel Boyer, was born in Paris in 1935 into a family of craftsmen and architects. He studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, where his teacher included André Arbus. In 1957, he completed his training as an interior architect, decorator and designer at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts.

In 1960, he was hired by architect Pierre Dufau, where he worked with Max Abramovitz to complete the Palais des Sports in Paris. Five years later, he took part in the reconstruction of the Rothschild Bank; once the building was completed, he was put in charge of interior architecture and fittings; his work was highly acclaimed. Michel Boyer subsequently set up his own company, designing head offices for a number of banks, including Paribas, Citibank and Crédit Lyonnais.

Committed to the quality of his creations, from 1968 onwards he distributed and exhibited his furniture, lighting fixtures and objects, including the “X” stool in bent and curved steel and the “PLM” heating units at the Galerie Rouve on rue Bonaparte in Paris. He also presents creations by Yonel Lebovici and Italian designers. His preferred materials are steel, laminate and lacquer. Success was immediate.

At the same time, Michel Boyer works with major brands such as Lanvin, Dior, Balmain and Moët & Chandon. He designed residences for prestigious clients such as Liliane and André Bettencourt in Neuilly-sur-Seine and Karim Aga Khan in Porto Cervo, as well as palaces in the Middle East. In 1975, he designed the French diplomatic representation in Brasilia, followed by Washington ten years later.

In 1978, he won the René Gabriel prize, and in 1992 was named President of the Société des Artistes Décorateurs. He died in Paris on January 10, 2011.
