Exhibition Génération Formes Utiles – Puces du design
We invite you to discover the work of a line of French designers who marked the period of growth of the Trente Glorieuses (1945-1973) and more globally the landscape of design and interior architecture.
Contemporary of iconic figures such as Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand and Le Corbusier, this generation promoted the doctrine of social functionalism defended at the beginning of the 20th century by Francis Jourdain, a pioneer of mass-produced furniture. It will then be trained on the benches of the school or within agency by the major figures of the Reconstruction; Jacques Dumond, Rene Gabriel, Marcel Gascoin and Louis Sognot, also members of the UAM.
This avant-garde of design, both interior architects and creators of models, which we propose to discover, will be unanimously welcomed. For more than two decades, it has received awards and distinctions, and its creators have become key figures in French design programs, alongside renowned architects and institutions such as the Mobilier National.
It thus proposes a new vision of Modernity, where the designer and the industrialist join together for right forms, thus affirming the beautiful in the useful.
The Génération Formes Utiles, too long relegated to the background of design history, deserves to be inscribed in the genesis of a profession and a discipline from which we still learn today.
