Biography: <\/p>\n
Jacques Nathan-Garamond studied at the Ecole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure des Arts D\u00e9coratifs and was director of Architecture d'Aujourd'hui before beginning his career as a designer.<\/p>\n
He was born Jacques Nathan and changed his surname during the Second World War to Garamond, using his real name Nathan as a middle name.
\nAfter the war, he became a graphic designer and worked with all kinds of ongoing artistic work, such as designing posters for a UNESCO exhibition on human rights in 1949. He has designed brands, packaging, book design, illustrations, posters and corporate identities. He did commercial work for companies such as Mazda, Air France and Telefunken.
\nIn 1950, Nathan Garamond was a founding member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI).<\/p>\n
His wife Cathy was an active supporter of AGI. He was subsequently named Honorary Life President.
\nIn 1957, he was awarded a gold medal at the Milan Triennale. In 1964, he took part in Documenta III in Kassel.
